Gonzales, Calif. — Carmen Vega Tapia Killed in Carr Road Home, Husband Pablo Villasenor Booked for Murder

GONZALES, Calif. – A quiet stretch of Carr Road just outside Gonzales turned into a crime scene Friday night, and now a family is left grieving the sudden loss of 60-year-old Carmen Vega Tapia.

It was around 9:27 p.m. on February 13, 2026, when emergency dispatchers received a 911 call from her husband, 66-year-old Pablo Villasenor. He told authorities his wife was bleeding and said he did not know what had happened. Deputies with the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office rushed to the home in the 28000 block of Carr Road and found Tapia suffering from a severe laceration.

Firefighters and paramedics worked quickly, providing emergency treatment before transporting her to a nearby trauma center. Despite life-saving efforts, Tapia was pronounced dead at the hospital. The news has shaken neighbors in this tight-knit agricultural community, where families often know each other by name.

As deputies secured the scene, they detained Villasenor. Authorities say he had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and later released. After further investigation, he was booked into the Monterey County Jail on a murder charge.

Investigators executed a search warrant at the home and recovered a firearm and a knife. Both weapons are believed to have been involved in the deadly incident. Officials have not yet released further details about what may have led to the violence inside the residence.

Friends and neighbors describe Tapia as warm and generous, a woman devoted to her loved ones and active in her community. Those who knew her say her absence leaves a painful gap that will not easily be filled.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office says the case remains under active investigation. Detectives are asking anyone with information to come forward as they continue working to piece together exactly what happened that night on Carr Road.
