SUMMERSVILLE W.Va. — Inside the Home Where a Husband Allegedly Took Two Lives Before His Own

The calm of Tara Estates on Thursday evening was shattered when authorities in Summersville, West Virginia, responded to a call that three people were found unresponsive inside a home on Ashley Lane. The caller, a family member who also lived at the residence, reported that the three occupants showed signs of severe injury.

Police arriving just after 5 p.m. found the situation as dire as the caller had described. Two women, identified as Dawn Morrow and her mother, Nancy Lindwedel, were already dead. Not far from them lay Dawn’s husband, Douglas Morrow, also lifeless. It was a scene of loss, confusion, and a kind of devastation that rippled through the quiet street.

As law enforcement from the Summersville Police Department, the Nicholas County Sheriff’s Office, and the West Virginia State Police Crime Scene Team worked the scene, a picture began to form. Early investigation points to a murder-suicide carried out by Douglas Morrow. Investigators believe he shot his wife and his mother-in-law before turning the gun on himself. There were no signs of anyone else being involved, and police stressed the incident appeared contained to that household.

Chief Brad Reed called the event an isolated incident. There was no danger to the wider community, he said. The house where this took place was one that neighbors passed every day without thought, and now it is tied to something no one expected.

All three victims lived at the residence. Their bodies were transported to the West Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsies as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities have notified the family and are continuing to look into what might have led to the violence.

In the aftermath, residents of Summersville and especially those who knew the family are left with questions that may take time to answer. As officers comb through evidence and try to understand motives, the neighborhood deals with the loss of familiar faces.

For the close-knit community in this corner of West Virginia, a quiet evening became a stark reminder of how fragile life can be.
