Authorities in Prior Lake, Minnesota are investigating a tragic case after two people were found dead inside a residential home over the weekend. The individuals have been identified as 35-year-old William Smith and 34-year-old Laura Smith.
Officers with the Prior Lake Police Department were first called to the home near Spruce Trail and Spruce Circle around 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, for a welfare check after concerns were raised about the occupants.

When officers arrived, they determined that forced entry into the home was necessary to check on the situation inside. Once they entered the residence, they discovered both William and Laura Smith deceased in a bedroom.
At the time of the discovery, authorities did not immediately release their identities. This was done to allow time for proper family notification before any public identification was made.
The news has left family members and the local community in shock as they try to process the sudden loss of the couple. Neighbors in the area have described the scene as quiet and unexpected, with no prior public indication of trouble.
Police have confirmed that the investigation remains active and ongoing. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting local officers as they work to determine exactly what happened inside the home.
Authorities have also stated clearly that there is no known threat to the public and that no suspect is currently being sought in connection with the incident.
Officials are now awaiting the results from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office, which will determine the official cause and manner of death. Investigators say these findings will be crucial in understanding whether the deaths were due to natural causes, an accident, suicide, or other circumstances.
For now, the Prior Lake Police Department says the case remains sensitive, and they are asking the public for patience while evidence is reviewed and final medical conclusions are pending.
