Temple, Texas — A quiet Sunday afternoon turned tragic on South 37th Street when 40‑year‑old Ramirez Wilson was found unresponsive and later died, police say. Responding officers discovered Wilson on the ground shortly before 2 p.m. after a disturbance call in the 1100 block of South 37th Street.
When Temple Police arrived, they saw Wilson not breathing and immediately began CPR. Paramedics arrived soon after and rushed him to a nearby hospital. Wilson was later pronounced dead, leaving friends and neighbors in shock.

No other people were reported hurt in the incident, according to police. Detectives from the Temple Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division and the Crime Scene Unit remained on site for much of the afternoon, collecting evidence and piecing together what happened.
Investigators have identified 30‑year‑old Eddie Mathis Jr. as a person of interest in the case. Authorities initially asked for the public’s help locating Mathis, and later confirmed he has been found and spoken to by detectives. At this time, police have not released details on any charges.
Neighbors described hearing raised voices before officers arrived, though no one reported hearing gunshots or seeing anyone flee the scene. The quiet neighborhood was left with questions as law enforcement continues its work.
Officials say the investigation remains active while they await autopsy results and more information from witnesses. They are urging anyone who saw something unusual on Sunday afternoon or who might know more about the events leading up to Wilson’s death to come forward.
