Lake Murray, South Carolina — Early Monday morning, neighbors at the 2200 block of Lake Murray Boulevard were shaken awake by the sound of gunshots and frantic 911 calls that summoned deputies to an apartment complex where a man was later found shot to death.
Raynard Brewington, 43, was discovered unresponsive in the parking lot near his residence. The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department says deputies arrived shortly after the calls came in and confirmed Brewington had died at the scene. The Lexington County Coroner’s Office has since verified his identity and cause of death.

Friends and people who lived nearby described Brewington as a quiet, friendly neighbor who was well-liked in the community. The sudden, violent loss has hit them hard, leaving a silence where laughter and conversation once were.
Investigators have spoken with residents and witnesses, combing through details that might explain how and why the shooting happened. Detectives are carefully piecing together what they know, but so far authorities have not released any suspects or motives.
Officials are encouraging anyone who might have information to reach out to Midlands Crimestoppers. “There are people who saw or heard something,” a law enforcement source said, urging the community to help bring clarity to the tragedy.
As Brewington’s family, friends and neighbors grapple with shock and grief, the investigation continues. Deputies remain on alert, determined to uncover answers that will bring a measure of peace to a hurting community.
In the meantime, residents at the Lake Murray apartments are left with questions and a stark reminder of how quickly life can change, while authorities pursue every lead they can to resolve what happened that quiet morning.
