OTIS, Massachusetts — Antonio Marcucci Dies After Tractor-Trailer Crash on South Main Road

The quiet stretch of South Main Road in Otis, Massachusetts, turned into a scene of tragedy Thursday morning when a violent collision between two tractor-trailers claimed the life of 32-year-old Antonio Marcucci of Waterbury, Connecticut.

Police say the crash happened shortly after 9 a.m. on March 5 along the 1300 block of South Main Road, a rural roadway that cuts through the wooded hills of Berkshire County. Officers with the Otis Police Department were dispatched around 9:09 a.m. after reports of a serious two-vehicle crash involving large commercial trucks.

When first responders arrived, they found a chaotic scene. Two tractor-trailers had veered off the roadway and ended up lodged in a snowbank on opposite sides of the road. One truck sat in the northbound lane while the other rested in the southbound lane, evidence of a powerful head-on collision.

Inside the northbound truck, emergency crews found Marcucci trapped in the cab. Rescuers worked quickly to reach him and rushed him to Baystate Medical Center. Despite their efforts, the young driver later died from his injuries.

Authorities said the driver of the second tractor-trailer, which carried Oklahoma registration plates, did not suffer serious injuries. That driver was treated at the scene as investigators began piecing together what went wrong on the quiet roadway.

Early findings from the investigation suggest both trucks were traveling in opposite directions when the crash occurred. Investigators reviewing dash-camera footage from one of the vehicles believe the northbound truck lost control before crossing into the opposite lane and striking the other tractor-trailer.

Several agencies joined the response effort, including the Otis Fire Department, Massachusetts State Police, the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and detectives assigned to the Berkshire State Police unit.

As investigators continue to review evidence and reconstruct the moments leading up to the crash, the loss of Marcucci has left a somber reminder of how quickly life can change on the highway. For many drivers who travel the winding roads of western Massachusetts every day, the tragedy underscores the fragile balance between routine travel and sudden disaster.
