California, Maryland Crash: A quiet stretch of Three Notch Road turned deadly in the early hours of Friday, April 10, 2026, when a 40-year-old man was struck and killed while trying to cross the roadway in California, Maryland.
It happened around 2:26 a.m. in the 22700 block of southbound Three Notch Road near Town Creek Drive. Multiple 911 calls came in reporting a pedestrian lying in the road.
When deputies and emergency crews arrived, they found an adult male in the southbound lanes along with a bicycle. He was unresponsive and not breathing.

Firefighters immediately started CPR on the scene. Paramedics arrived shortly after, but the man was pronounced dead where he was found.
Authorities later identified him as Jesse San Nicolas, 40, of California, Maryland. His death has left the local community shaken as investigators worked through the early morning scene.
Preliminary findings show he was attempting to cross the southbound lanes when he was hit by more than one vehicle. The impact proved fatal almost instantly.
One of the vehicles involved, a 2016 BMW 528i driven by a 21-year-old man from Waldorf, stayed at the scene after the collision. Investigators confirmed that driver remained cooperative.
However, officials also say a second vehicle struck San Nicolas and left the scene without stopping. That vehicle is believed to be a dark blue or black Dodge Caravan, model years 2011 through 2020, likely showing front-end damage.
At one point, authorities clarified that another vehicle initially thought to be involved was actually a witness who stopped to call 911 and help alert emergency responders.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Team is now leading the investigation. Deputies are still trying to identify the hit-and-run vehicle and are asking for any witnesses to come forward.
Southbound lanes of Three Notch Road were closed for several hours after the crash as investigators documented the scene and cleared the roadway. The case remains open.
