Charlotte, N.C. Gun Violence Claims Life of Luis Daniel Gutierrez Mora After Weekend Shooting

Charlotte, N.C. — Luis Daniel Gutierrez Mora, 31, fought for his life for three days after being shot early Sunday morning, but he died Tuesday, leaving a community shaken and a family grieving.

Officers with the Charlotte‑Mecklenburg Police Department were called to the 5800 block of Albemarle Road near Central Avenue around 2 a.m. on Sunday. When they arrived, they found Mora lying on the pavement with life‑threatening gunshot wounds.

Medics rushed him to a hospital, where he was treated through the weekend into Tuesday. Despite the efforts of doctors and nurses, Mora succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday evening.

Detectives from CMPD’s homicide unit took over the case after his death and began working to understand what led to the shooting. At this point, police have not named any suspects and have not released a motive for the attack.

Investigators are canvassing the neighborhood, reviewing any surveillance video they can find, and talking with people who might have seen something that morning. The work is slow, and detectives know every detail can help piece together what happened.

Friends and family described Mora as someone who meant a lot to them, whose life was cut short in what many are calling senseless violence. His loss resonates with those who knew him and with neighbors who see too many shootings in their community.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact them so they can bring answers and, hopefully, justice.
