VERMILION TOWNSHIP Crash Claims Two Lives in Overnight Wreck

VERMILION TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Rickey Morgan, 49, and Robert Senn Jr., 65, both from Vermilion, were killed in a single-vehicle crash early Friday, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. The wreck happened around 2:07 a.m. on U.S. Route 6 near mile marker 25 in Erie County. Morgan was driving his 2008 Honda Accord westbound when he failed to make a left-hand curve, veered off the road, overcorrected, and lost control again. The car hit two signs and then slammed into a tree before it came to rest.

Neither Morgan nor Senn Jr., who was in the front passenger seat, was wearing a seat belt. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers said alcohol is being treated as a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation. Emergency crews from the county sheriff’s office, Vermilion Township fire and police departments, LifeCare EMS, and others responded to the scene. U.S. 6 was closed for about two hours while crews cleared the wreckage.

Friends and family described Morgan and Senn Jr. as well-known figures in the community. Neighbors spoke quietly about how both men were part of local life — seen at diners, church events, and community fundraisers. Their sudden deaths have left many in this lakeside township struggling to make sense of the loss.

Morgan worked locally and was known for his friendly manner and willingness to help others. Senn Jr. was remembered as someone who enjoyed sharing a laugh and supporting friends. The sense of shock is palpable among residents, who are now grappling with the void left by the crash.

Local clergy and community leaders have urged people to check in on one another as grief spreads. “Two lives gone so suddenly reminds us how fragile our time is,” one organizer said at a small vigil. Support services and gatherings are being arranged for families and friends of the victims.

Authorities emphasized the importance of safe driving, especially at night and on rural roads where curves and conditions can change quickly. The investigation is ongoing, and officials expect to release more details as they are confirmed.
