Grief is sweeping through Oak Forest after the fatal shooting of 30-year-old Latrell Williams of Alsip, who was gunned down in the middle of a busy Saturday afternoon at a major intersection.
The incident happened around 4:47 p.m. at 167th Street and Cicero Avenue, a heavily traveled area filled with traffic at the time. Williams was stopped in the median lane when another vehicle pulled up beside him in a left-turn lane.
Investigators say that moments after the two vehicles came alongside each other, shots were fired from the suspect vehicle. Williams was struck multiple times during the attack.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene within minutes. He was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where doctors later pronounced him dead.

After the shooting, the suspect vehicle sped away eastbound on 167th Street, heading toward Interstate 57. Authorities say no arrests have been made so far, and the search for those responsible is still active.
Family members describe Williams as a grounded and well-known presence in Alsip. Friends say he was more than the headlines now surrounding his death; he was a son, a friend, and someone deeply connected to his community.
The shooting, carried out in broad daylight at a crowded intersection, has intensified concern among residents about rising gun violence and public safety in the area.
Police are asking anyone with information to come forward as they continue piecing together what led to the attack and who was involved in the fatal encounter. Those close to Williams are now left holding on to memories of a life cut short far too soon.
