A bright young light has gone dark in Connecticut, leaving a community searching for answers. Jaiden Pacheco was only 20 years old when his life was suddenly cut short on a dark stretch of road. He was a guy who brought laughter into every room he walked into, known for a smile that could easily turn anyone’s day around. Now, his family and friends are left trying to navigate an absolute nightmare.
Jaiden grew up locally, graduating from Windham High School before stepping out into the workforce. He landed a job with Santor Electrical Contractors, working hard to build a solid future for himself. When he wasn’t on the clock, he loved the simple pleasures of being a regular young guy, whether that meant casting a fishing line, playing video games, or just hanging out with the people he loved most.

Everything changed in an instant just before midnight on Friday, June 26, 2026. Emergency responders were called to a devastating scene at the intersection of Willimantic Road and Phoenixville Road in nearby Chaplin. Two vehicles had collided violently in the darkness, turning a quiet summer night into a tragedy.
State troopers arrived to find a mangled Hyundai Elantra carrying four young occupants. The impact of the crash was severe, leaving everyone inside the vehicle completely unresponsive. First responders worked desperately at the scene to provide medical aid, but the damage was already done.
Jaiden, who was riding as a passenger, did not survive the collision. Another young passenger, 18-year-old Geovani Aponte Jr., also lost his life in the crash. Two other teenagers on the driver’s side survived but suffered severe injuries, while the driver of the second vehicle, a Dodge Journey, escaped with minor injuries.
The loss has sent shockwaves through Mansfield and the surrounding towns. Jaiden leaves behind a massive, heartbroken family, including his parents, multiple siblings, and his girlfriend, Angelica Santor Fabian. Those close to him say his compassionate nature left a permanent mark on everyone he met during his short time here.
The community will get the chance to say their final goodbyes very soon. A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, July 15, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at 120 Church on Union Street in Willimantic. A funeral service will follow the next morning, ending with his burial at the New Willimantic Cemetery as a grieving town remembers a life taken far too soon.
