A late-night drive on Interstate 64 in Hampton, Virginia has led to criminal charges and a young man’s death, as investigators lay out what they believe caused a devastating chain-reaction crash.
Authorities say the incident happened around 10:30 p.m. on April 18, 2026, along the eastbound lanes near Hampton Roads Center Parkway. According to state police, the sequence began with a single unsafe move that quickly triggered a cascade of collisions involving multiple vehicles.

Investigators allege that 23-year-old Trinity Hall, driving a Chevrolet pickup, made an unsafe lane change that struck a Chevrolet SUV. The force of that hit pushed the SUV into a jersey wall. Within moments, a Toyota Camry, driven by 20-year-old Freddy A. Villaman, collided with the SUV, adding to the growing chaos on the roadway.
The crash left the vehicles disabled and scattered across the highway. But the danger did not end there. Freddy exited his vehicle in the aftermath, likely trying to assess the damage or get to safety. It was then, police say, that a second and more tragic impact occurred.
A 39-year-old Hampton man, Dehn Baker, driving an Infiniti, entered the crash scene and struck both Freddy and the Camry. The Infiniti then continued forward, colliding with a Jeep SUV. In seconds, what had already been a serious accident turned fatal.
Freddy A. Villaman was pronounced dead at the scene. His death has become the central loss in a case that now carries legal consequences for multiple drivers. For investigators, the focus is on how each decision behind the wheel contributed to the outcome.
Medina Roberson, 34, who was driving the Chevrolet SUV, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. Officials confirmed she had been wearing a seatbelt. The Jeep driver involved in the final collision escaped without injury.
Charges have now been filed. Trinity Hall faces an accusation of making an unsafe lane change, a move police say set the entire chain in motion. Dehn Baker has been charged with reckless driving for his role in the secondary impact that ultimately claimed Freddy’s life.
As the investigation continues, the legal process will attempt to assign responsibility. But for Freddy Villaman’s family, the case is about far more than charges. It is about a life lost too soon, and a night that began like any other but ended in irreversible tragedy.
