McKee, KY — Daniele Cox, 35, died Saturday after a violent two‑vehicle crash on Kentucky Highway 290 that left her trapped and badly injured. The McKee community is struggling to absorb the sudden loss of a woman known for her warmth, her familiar presence, and the many connections she built throughout her life.
The collision happened just before 10:40 a.m. in the 5200 block of KY‑290. Multiple 911 calls reported a serious crash, and first responders from Jackson County EMS, Pond Creek Fire, Sand Gap Fire, and McKee Fire raced to the scene. When they arrived, Cox was pinned inside her Toyota Corolla, suffering critical trauma.

A Chevrolet Silverado involved in the collision had veered off the road into a southbound culvert. Rescue crews worked quickly to free Cox and the other driver, but despite determined efforts, Cox could not be saved. She later died from her injuries.
Preliminary investigation indicates the Corolla was heading north when it drifted into the southbound lane and struck the Silverado. After impact, the Silverado left the roadway while the Corolla spun and stopped near the junction of KY‑290 and Joanie Road. Authorities continue to examine the scene and circumstances of the crash.
Friends and neighbors remember Cox as a cherished part of McKee life. Her smile, her easy conversations, and her presence in the community made her loss especially painful for those who knew her. Family members have asked for privacy as they grieve.
As the community mourns, many are reflecting on the fragility of life and holding Cox’s loved ones in their thoughts. Funeral plans are pending, and tributes to her life are beginning to appear among residents who feel her absence deeply.
Investigators with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to review the collision. No further details have been released as they work to piece together a full account of what happened that morning.
