SIMPSONVILLE, S.C.: Couple Found Dead in Apparent Homicide-Suicide Leaves Community in Shock

Simpsonville was shaken this week when 73-year-old Gloria Jean Dobson and her husband, 75-year-old Daryl Lynn Dobson, were found dead inside their home on Appian Circle. Deputies were called on March 24 after a family member asked for a welfare check. What they found was heartbreaking.

When officers entered the house, both Gloria and Daryl were already dead from gunshot wounds. A handgun was found near Daryl’s body. Investigators believe Daryl shot Gloria before turning the gun on himself. The Greenville County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Gloria’s death was a homicide. Daryl’s death was ruled a suicide.

Neighbors described the Dobsons as quiet and friendly. Many said they had seen the couple walking their dogs in the neighborhood just days before. That normal routine now stands in stark contrast to the tragedy that unfolded inside their home.

Inside the house, deputies also found two dogs and a pet bird that were no longer alive. The sight of the pets brought fresh sadness to friends and neighbors who knew the animals as part of the family. People in the community are struggling to understand why this happened.

Authorities are still investigating. They have not released any more details, and no motive has been confirmed. Family members have asked for privacy as they grieve and try to make sense of the loss.

At a small memorial on a quiet street corner near the Dobsons’ home, neighbors have left flowers and notes. Many speak of Gloria’s kind smile and Daryl’s gentle demeanor. Their absence is being felt in a community that had come to know them.

In the days after the deaths, friends have gathered to support one another. Conversations often circle back to the same question: how could a loving couple end up in such a tragic situation?
