Muskogee County — Isabella Clay, 18, Killed in Head-On Crash on OK-72

Early Sunday morning, a quiet stretch of highway in Muskogee County turned tragic when an 18-year-old young woman lost her life in a violent head-on crash.

Authorities say Isabella Clay, of Haskell, was driving south on Oklahoma State Highway 72 near West Dozer Road when the crash happened just before dawn on March 8. According to investigators, another vehicle traveling north suddenly crossed the centerline and slammed directly into Clay’s car.

The impact was severe. Troopers said Clay’s vehicle came to rest in the roadway after the collision. The other vehicle veered off the highway and ended up off the road to the right.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene, but Clay’s injuries were devastating. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say Clay had been wearing her seat belt when the crash occurred. She was alone in her vehicle at the time.

The driver of the northbound vehicle, identified as a 35-year-old man from Tulsa, survived the crash but was injured. Authorities said he was not wearing a seat belt when the collision happened. No other passengers were involved in either vehicle.

Troopers have not yet said what caused the driver to cross the centerline. Officials say the crash remains under investigation as they work to determine exactly what led to the deadly collision.

Clay’s death has shaken the community around Haskell and Coweta, where the young woman was known as a high school senior active in the Future Farmers of America program. Friends and classmates have shared messages of grief online, remembering her as someone who loved agriculture, cared deeply about others, and left a strong impression on everyone she met.

As investigators continue their work, the quiet roadway where the crash happened stands as a stark reminder of how quickly life can change on an ordinary morning drive.
