FLORENCE, Alabama Woman Dies in Head‑On Crash, Community Mourns Brittney D. Ellis

Florence, Alabama — Brittney D. Ellis, 38, died Monday afternoon after a violent head‑on collision on Alabama Highway 17 in Lauderdale County.

Just after 3 p.m., Ellis was driving a 2012 Nissan Rogue northbound near mile marker 338 when her vehicle struck another car traveling south. The force of the crash was devastating. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Ellis was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the other vehicle survived but was seriously injured. That person was taken by ambulance to the North Alabama Medical Center for treatment. In the same car were three children — ages 16, 10 and 1 — who also suffered injuries. All were transported to the hospital for care.

Local troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency are still piecing together what led to the collision. They have not released any details about speed, weather conditions, or possible impairment.

Friends, family and neighbors in Florence are struggling with shock and grief. Many describe Ellis as warm, joyful and committed to her family. Her sudden passing has left a deep ache in the community she called home.

Loved ones have asked for privacy and support as they remember her kindness and celebrate her life in the days ahead.
