William Scott, Nashville: Witnesses Report Speed Before Deadly Hermitage Avenue Collision

A Wednesday afternoon ride through Nashville turned tragic when 35-year-old William Scott lost his life following a collision involving a motorcycle and a Mercedes sedan on Hermitage Avenue.

According to authorities, the crash happened around 4:40 p.m. near the intersection of Hermitage Avenue and Academy Place. Investigators said Scott was riding a Kawasaki ZX1 motorcycle southbound when it collided with the driver’s side of a Mercedes sedan that was crossing Hermitage Avenue from Academy Place.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene and worked quickly to provide medical aid. Scott was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where doctors and medical staff fought to save him. Despite those efforts, he later died from his injuries.

Police spent several hours at the scene collecting evidence and speaking with witnesses. The investigation remains active as officials continue working to determine exactly what happened in the moments leading up to the crash.

Several witnesses told investigators that Scott was allegedly riding at a very high speed and operating the motorcycle recklessly before the collision occurred. Authorities said those statements will be carefully reviewed as part of the investigation.

Officials also noted there were no signs of impairment involving either driver. At this stage, investigators have not identified any additional contributing factors beyond the preliminary findings and witness accounts.

The driver of the Mercedes remained at the scene after the crash and cooperated with authorities. No charges have been announced, and the driver’s identity has not been released publicly.

The collision serves as another reminder of the dangers riders face on busy roadways. Unlike occupants inside passenger vehicles, motorcyclists have very little protection during serious crashes, often making the consequences far more severe.

As investigators continue reviewing witness statements, vehicle damage, roadway evidence, and any available surveillance footage, Scott’s death has left family members, friends, and members of the Nashville community mourning a life that ended far too soon.
