Kohen Kartier Wiley was just a one-year-old baby boy when his life was cut short on a sunny Sunday afternoon. He was sitting inside a car with his mother and a close family friend in a crowded Walmart parking lot along U.S. 51. What was supposed to be a normal weekend trip quickly turned into a complete nightmare when a local police officer opened fire directly into their vehicle.
The little boy’s family is completely broken over the tragedy and they are demanding answers from local authorities. Kohen’s mother was right there in the passenger seat when the shots rang out, holding onto her sweet baby. While she managed to survive the sudden gunfire without any physical injuries, she now has to live with the horrific memory of that moment for the rest of her days.

According to relatives, the mother did absolutely everything she could to protect her child before the officer started shooting. She says she frantically tried to yell out to the officers on the pavement to let them know a tiny baby was riding in the car. Despite her desperate warnings and pleas, the officer pulled the trigger anyway, and a bullet struck the innocent toddler.
Right after the shooting took place, the driver scrambled to speed away from the chaotic scene to escape the flying bullets. The vehicle rushed straight to a nearby hospital emergency room, hoping that doctors could somehow save the little boy’s life. Tragically, it was already too late, and Kohen was pronounced dead at the hospital while the family friend driving the car was left fighting for her life with critical injuries.
High-profile civil rights attorney Ben Crump has stepped in to represent the grieving family as they look for accountability. Crump made it clear that Kohen’s mother has not been charged with any sort of crime at all following the incident. The family is also strongly disputing the official police narrative, including whether any shoplifting actually took place before the gunfire started.
The heartbreaking loss of such a young child has sparked massive waves of outrage all through the local community. Folks have been gathering in large crowds outside the Walmart and the local City Hall to demand justice and a thorough investigation. The demonstrations got so intense that law enforcement officers ended up deploying tear gas to disperse the angry crowds who were demanding the officer’s arrest.
Right now, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is leading the official independent probe to find out exactly what went wrong that afternoon. They plan to gather all the evidence and hand over their complete findings to the state attorney general’s office for a full review. Meanwhile, the community is keeping Kohen’s memory alive and promising they won’t stop making noise until his family gets justice.
