The quiet stretch of Singer Avenue in McKees Rocks turned into a scene of heartbreak Friday night when 20-year-old Mya Parker was shot inside a home, leaving a family and community shaken.
Police say the call came in just after 8 p.m. on March 20. Dispatchers reported a shooting inside a residence along the 20 block of Singer Avenue. Officers and medics rushed to the scene, where they found Parker suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

She was quickly transported to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts to save her, doctors pronounced her dead shortly after arrival. The loss hit hard, especially given her young age and the suddenness of the violence.
Investigators say witnesses inside the apartment building heard what sounded like a loud pop. Moments later, Parker was discovered bleeding in a bedroom. That single sound marked the beginning of a tragic chain of events that ended in her death.
Authorities moved fast. Detectives worked through the night, piecing together what happened inside the home. By early Saturday, they confirmed they had identified everyone involved in the shooting.
Not long after the incident, a 19-year-old man, later identified as Jayden Knight, approached a police officer at a nearby bus stop. According to investigators, he made a direct statement admitting responsibility for the shooting.
Knight now faces a criminal homicide charge. He is being held at the Allegheny County Jail as he awaits a preliminary hearing. Meanwhile, police continue to coordinate with prosecutors as the case moves forward.
For those who knew Mya Parker, the details of the investigation offer little comfort. What remains is a deep sense of loss and unanswered questions about how a young life ended so abruptly inside a place that should have been safe.
