KILLEEN MAN, CHRISTOPHER GILLESPEY, 37, FOUND FATALLY SHOT OUTSIDE HOME AFTER MORNING DISTRESS CALL

Killeen — Christopher Gillespey, 37, was found dead outside his home Thursday morning after a neighbor’s 911 call alerted police to a shooting on the 1700 block of North Gray Street. Officers arriving on scene discovered Gillespey collapsed in the yard just after 9 a.m. He had been shot and was unconscious when first responders reached him.

Police say preliminary investigation shows Gillespey was inside his residence when the shooting happened. He appears to have staggered out of the house after being hit, then collapsed just outside the front door. Emergency crews from Killeen EMS pronounced him dead at the scene. Gillespey’s sudden passing has left family members and friends in deep shock and grief.

Local investigators with the Killeen Police Department’s Robbery‑Homicide Unit are handling the case. Detectives have started canvassing the neighborhood and have urged residents and businesses near North Gray Street to check surveillance footage for any suspicious activity around the time of the shooting. Officers were seen maintaining a perimeter around the scene into the afternoon, marking off areas with caution tape as they worked.

People who knew Gillespey describe him as someone who cared about those close to him. In the hours after his death was announced, family members were seen comforting one another and sharing memories of quieter moments and simple kindnesses he offered over the years. They have asked for space and privacy while they mourn his unexpected loss.

Neighbors told reporters they were shaken awake by the police activity early that morning, and many stood on nearby porches watching as detectives walked the street, taking notes and speaking with residents. Some recalled seeing Gillespey wave as he walked his dog in the evenings, a routine that made his sudden absence even more heartbreaking for those who lived around him.

At a time when the community is already grappling with concerns about violence, Gillespey’s death has reverberated through local conversation. Residents spoke about how devastating it feels to lose a familiar face to gun violence so close to home, and how uncertain they feel about what comes next.

Police have not released any suspect information or motive. The investigation remains active. Detectives continue to gather evidence and interview potential witnesses in hopes of understanding what happened inside that North Gray Street home before Gillespey collapsed outside.
