A quiet Tuesday morning in Chesterfield County turned tense when a reported disturbance quickly escalated into a deadly encounter between police and a local resident. Authorities say 32-year-old Tamondrick J. Burroughs Jr. was shot and killed after allegedly pointing a rifle at responding officers.
It all began around 9:45 a.m. on April 7, when officers were called to the 4000 block of Frye Terrace. A caller reported that a man was on their property, shouting and carrying what appeared to be a long gun. The situation unsettled neighbors, especially after the man reportedly approached the complainant’s front door before walking back toward his own home.

When officers arrived, they encountered Burroughs standing in the doorway of his residence, still armed. According to police, the situation escalated within moments. Investigators say Burroughs raised the rifle and pointed it directly at officers. One officer responded by firing their weapon.
Burroughs retreated back inside the house after the shot was fired. Officers quickly secured the area, setting up a perimeter to prevent further risk to nearby residents. A drone was deployed to assess the situation safely from above, giving officers a clearer picture of what they were dealing with inside the home.
After some time, officers made entry into the residence. Inside, they found Burroughs lying unresponsive on the floor. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident, and authorities say the officer who fired the shot has been placed on administrative leave, as required by department policy.
Neighbors described the morning as chaotic and unsettling. Many said they were caught off guard by the heavy police presence and the sudden escalation. For a community used to relative calm, the incident has left lingering questions and concern.
Investigators have not yet released further details about what may have led to the confrontation or Burroughs’ actions that morning. The case remains under active investigation, and officials are urging anyone with information to come forward.
