Early Monday, a quiet morning at Tan Oak Apartments in Twin Lakes turned grim when a woman was found shot to death inside her home. Police say officers answered a call just after 9 a.m. at the complex on Wilmot Avenue. Inside, they discovered 37‑year‑old Amber K. Montana with fatal gunshot wounds. An 11‑month‑old child and a family dog were also in the apartment but were unharmed. The infant was later placed with a relative.
Responding officers quickly detained 35‑year‑old Brandyn R. Hall without incident outside the unit. Investigators from the Twin Lakes Police Department and the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office gathered evidence at the scene and say Hall eventually admitted involvement in the shooting. Authorities transported him to the Kenosha County Jail. He now faces multiple charges including first‑degree intentional homicide, recklessly endangering safety, possession of a firearm by a felon and armed disorderly conduct.

Neighbors at the usually peaceful complex were shocked. Some said they heard gunshots Monday morning just before law enforcement arrived. Residents described the area as quiet and family‑oriented, a place where incidents like this were unexpected. The shooting has rattled people who live nearby and left many struggling to process the loss of life so close to home.
Police stressed that the incident appears to have been an isolated event and there is no ongoing threat to the wider community. Fire and rescue personnel assisted at the scene, and the case now awaits further review by the Kenosha County District Attorney’s office. A booking photo of Hall was not yet released Monday as processing continued.
For friends and family of Montana, the tragedy leaves unanswered questions and deep sadness. Those who knew her remember a mother and neighbor taken far too soon, and a community searching for answers in the wake of sudden violence.
