Catherine Walker-Thomas Peoria: Fatal stabbing in North Hightower Street home sparks homicide probe

Peoria police are investigating a deadly stabbing that claimed the life of 36-year-old Catherine Walker-Thomas late on the night of June 2.

Officers were called out around 10:12 p.m. to the 700 block of North Hightower Street after a hang-up 911 call came in. While units were still on the way, additional reports suggested there was an active disturbance inside the residence.

When officers arrived, they found Walker-Thomas suffering from a serious stab wound. The situation was already critical, and first responders moved quickly to provide emergency aid at the scene.

Peoria Fire personnel and police officers worked on her before rushing her to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center. She was taken in critical condition and placed under emergency trauma care.

Despite efforts by medical staff, she was pronounced dead at 10:56 p.m. Her injuries were described by investigators as extremely severe and not survivable.

The Peoria County Coroner later confirmed her identity and said an autopsy showed she died from a stab wound considered inconsistent with life, suggesting she likely passed shortly after the attack.

Police units from patrol, investigations, and crime scene teams secured the area and began collecting evidence. The home and surrounding block were processed as part of the active investigation.

Authorities confirmed that the case is still open as detectives work through what led to the confrontation that ended in her death.
