Snellville was quiet early Sunday morning when a fast-moving police chase ended in a violent crash that took a young life. A 19-year-old woman, later identified as Neveah McGowan, died after the car she was riding in slammed into barriers and flipped along Scenic Highway. Two other passengers were left badly hurt.
Georgia State Patrol said the crash happened around 2:35 a.m. near the intersection of Scenic Highway and Hickory Lane. A state trooper had been called in to help Snellville police moments after a Hyundai Elantra fled officers and lost control at high speed.

Investigators said the car was heading north on Scenic Highway when the driver failed to maintain control. The vehicle hit a concrete median barrier, then veered off the road. It smashed into a mailbox and a utility pole before rolling several times and landing upside down.
Three passengers were inside the car at the time of the crash. Two of them were rushed to Northside Gwinnett Hospital with serious injuries. The third passenger, Neveah McGowan, suffered critical injuries and later died.
Family members confirmed Neveah’s identity and described her as a bright, loving young woman whose life ended far too soon. Her death has left relatives and friends struggling to understand how a routine early morning drive turned into a fatal moment.
Police said the driver survived the crash and was taken into custody by the Snellville Police Department. Authorities confirmed that all charges connected to the pursuit and crash will be handled by Snellville police.
The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is now assisting with the investigation. Their job is to piece together exactly what happened in the final seconds before the crash, as the community mourns another young life lost on a dark stretch of road.
