The call came in at about 2:08 p.m., drawing immediate response from the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Office and the Rosedale Police Department.
When officers reached the area, they began searching the grounds and surrounding streets. The situation quickly shifted from a report of shots fired to a confirmed deadly incident near two school sites in the community.

A light blue Chevrolet Tahoe was later found parked in a wooded area behind Rosedale Elementary School. Inside the vehicle were two people, both connected to the unfolding investigation.
One of the occupants, identified as 31-year-old Miltorious Britton of Rosedale, had been shot. Authorities confirmed he died at the scene. The second person inside the SUV survived without physical injuries.
Investigators believe the shooting started earlier in the parking lot of Rosedale High School. They say the vehicle then moved or was moved to the wooded area behind the elementary school, where it was eventually discovered.
