The quiet stretch of Argyle, Wisconsin turned tragic early Thursday morning, when 32-year-old Jaykub E. Anderson lost his life in a devastating crash that no one saw coming. What began as a routine drive quickly became a fatal moment that has left a community shaken.
According to authorities, the crash happened around 5:30 a.m. along the 5000 block of State Highway 81. Anderson was behind the wheel of a 2012 Peterbilt quad axle milk truck, heading westbound as part of what appeared to be a normal workday.
Investigators say the truck suddenly veered off the roadway to the north side. It traveled through a ditch for a short distance, but the situation escalated when the vehicle continued toward the edge of an abandoned quarry. Within seconds, the truck went over the edge and plunged below.
The impact was severe. Officials reported that the truck overturned upon hitting the quarry floor. The force was so intense that the milk tank, which was at least partially loaded, separated from the truck’s frame. The vehicle itself was left with extreme and extensive damage.
Emergency crews were called to the scene just before noon. Deputies from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, along with Argyle Fire Department and EMS, responded quickly. Additional support came from the Wisconsin State Patrol, the Department of Natural Resources, and the Lafayette County Highway Department, all working together under difficult conditions.
Despite those efforts, Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafayette County Coroner’s Office. Authorities confirmed he was alone in the vehicle at the time, making the loss even more stark and solitary.
The location of the wreck made recovery efforts slow and complex. Highway 81 was reduced to a single lane for several hours as crews carefully worked to recover the truck and document the scene. Investigators continue to examine what may have caused the truck to leave the roadway, but no clear answers have been released yet.
