Friday night started out just like any other weekend for folks around here. But it ended in absolute heartbreak for the local community. A sudden and tragic accident took a beloved neighbor away way too soon. Now, family and friends are left trying to process an incredibly heavy loss.
William Huntington was a 57-year-old guy from Greenville. People who knew him say he was someone who really loved life. He cherished the simple moments spent hanging out with his family and close friends. Most of all, he absolutely loved the total freedom of riding on the open road.
That love for the road took him out late on Friday night, June 12, 2026. He was riding his black 2003 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He was heading westbound on North Star-Ft. Loramie Road. The night was quiet, and everything seemed completely normal until around 11:17 p.m.
Out of nowhere, a deer stepped right into the path of his motorcycle. It happened so fast that there was simply no time to react. He struck the deer directly in the middle of the roadway. The violent impact instantly threw him off his beloved bike.
Emergency calls went out right away to get help to the scene. Deputies from the Darke County Sheriff’s Office rushed to the 7200 block of the road. First responders from Ansonia Rescue and the North Star Fire Department arrived quickly. Even a CareFlight medical helicopter crew responded to the urgent call.
Paramedics and rescue workers did everything they possibly could to save him. Sadly, the injuries from the crash were just too severe. William Huntington was pronounced dead right there at the scene of the accident. The Darke County Coroner’s Office also came out to assist with the tragic situation.
Now, a tight-knit community is wrapped in deep mourning for a wonderful man. The local accident reconstruction team is still looking into the exact details of the crash. This terrible loss is a painful reminder of just how fast everything can change. His family will always carry his memory through the stories and laughter they shared.
