CUMRU TWP. PENNSYLVANIA — Crash Takes Life of Shillington Man Justin Braun on Route 724

Cumru Township is reeling after 47‑year‑old Justin Braun of Shillington died in a crash Tuesday afternoon when his pickup truck veered across the center line on Route 724 and slammed into a trash truck. Deputies say Braun’s truck was headed westbound in the 1800 block of Philadelphia Avenue just after mid‑afternoon when it crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the heavy vehicle nearly head‑on.

Emergency crews arrived quickly, but Braun was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:40 p.m. from blunt force trauma. Authorities have ruled his death accidental as they continue to piece together what caused his truck to cross the center line.

The driver and a passenger from the trash truck were checked at a nearby hospital, but authorities have not shared their conditions. The Cumru Township Police, the Berks County Coroner’s Office, and the district attorney’s forensic team are working together on the investigation to understand exactly how the crash unfolded.

Neighbors and friends described Braun as someone who was well‑liked in the community, known for his steady presence and easy smile. Shock and sorrow are widespread as many struggle to reconcile the sudden and senseless loss.

Route 724, a busy two‑lane road through the heart of Cumru Township, has seen its share of serious crashes, and this latest tragedy underscores ongoing concerns about roadway safety in the area.
Family members have not yet released details about services, but tributes are beginning to pour in from friends and neighbors remembering Justin’s life and the abrupt way it ended.
