SPARTANBURG COUNTY: Jaylin Simpson, 8, Killed After Car Runs Stop Sign and Slams Into Trees

A quiet Saturday night in Spartanburg County turned into heartbreak after an 8-year-old girl lost her life in a violent crash that left four others hurt. Authorities say the crash happened around 10 p.m. on March 14 near the intersection of Sandy Ford Road and Fosters Grove Road. What began as a routine drive ended in tragedy for a young child whose life was cut short in an instant.

The victim has been identified as Jaylin Simpson, an 8-year-old girl from Spartanburg. According to the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office, Jaylin died at the scene before emergency crews could rush her to the hospital. Her sudden death has left family members and community residents stunned, as many struggle to process how such a young life could be taken so quickly.

Investigators say the crash involved a 2006 Mazda sedan traveling east along Sandy Ford Road late Saturday night. As the vehicle approached the intersection with Fosters Grove Road, authorities believe it ran through a stop sign and continued forward without stopping. Moments later, the car veered off the roadway.

After leaving the pavement, the vehicle entered an open field where it violently struck several trees. The impact did not stop there. The car then slammed into an embankment, causing severe damage to the vehicle and injuries to several occupants inside.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and began assisting those involved. Four other people who were inside the vehicle were injured in the crash. They were transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for treatment. Officials have not released details about their conditions as of Sunday.

The crash scene remained active for some time as investigators worked to document evidence and reconstruct what happened. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is now leading the investigation, working alongside the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office to determine exactly what led to the crash.

Authorities have not yet released information about who was driving the vehicle or whether any charges could follow. Investigators are still trying to determine what factors may have caused the car to miss the stop sign and leave the roadway. Mechanical issues, driver error, or other circumstances are all being examined.

For now, the community is left grieving the loss of a child whose life ended far too soon. Officials say anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information about the moments leading up to it is encouraged to contact investigators as they continue working to understand how the tragic night unfolded.
