ALBANY, Ga. — A quiet Saturday night turned into a nightmare in Albany after a suspected street race spiraled out of control, leaving two people dead, including a young child whose life had barely begun.
Police say the crash happened when a car believed to be part of a drag race lost control and slammed into multiple vehicles. The impact was violent and sudden, sending shock through everyone who witnessed the scene.

Among those killed were 26-year-old Rickey Thomas and his 4-year-old son, Kaise Thomas. Both suffered severe injuries and were pronounced dead shortly after the crash. For many in the community, the loss of a father and his young child has been especially hard to process.
Investigators identified one of the drivers involved as 24-year-old Brandon King. Authorities say another driver, 25-year-old Jacob Daniels Jr., fled the scene immediately after the crash. He later returned and was taken into custody without further incident.
Two other people were injured in the crash and taken to a nearby hospital. Officials described their injuries as non-life-threatening, though the emotional toll of the incident is expected to linger far longer.
Police have charged both King and Daniels with two counts of vehicular homicide. They also face charges of reckless driving and racing on a public roadway. Bond for each has been set at $1,700.
As investigators continue to piece together what led up to the crash, many are left asking how a moment of reckless speed could end in such devastating loss. For now, a grieving family and a shaken community are left to mourn Rickey and little Kaise.
Photos from the scene show crumpled vehicles scattered across the roadway, with flashing emergency lights cutting through the darkness. Other images circulating online capture the heavy police presence and the aftermath of a crash that changed several lives in an instant.
