The Florence community is facing deep pain after the death of 18-year-old Ty’Jeon McFarland, who was shot on Monday evening near a restaurant on Pearl Street in Darlington.
The incident happened around 6 p.m., during what was supposed to be an ordinary evening. It quickly turned into panic as gunfire broke out near the restaurant area, leaving people running for safety and calling for help.

According to the Darlington County Coroner’s Office, McFarland was struck by bullets during the shooting. Emergency responders rushed him away from the scene as quickly as possible while he was still in critical condition.
He was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors and medical staff worked on him in urgent efforts to save his life. Despite those efforts, he later died from his injuries.
News of his death spread quickly and left his family and friends devastated. Those closest to him are struggling to process how suddenly everything changed in just a few moments.
Authorities confirmed that the investigation is still active. The Darlington Police Department and the Coroner’s Office are working together to understand exactly what led to the shooting.
