Stanly County U.S. Highway 52: A quiet night ends in a violent head-on crash that took the life of Tiffany Mauldin
Stanly County is in mourning after a deadly crash claimed the life of 34-year-old Tiffany Mauldin late Wednesday night on U.S. Highway 52 near the Northeast Connector.
Authorities say emergency crews were called out just around 11 p.m. on May 27, 2026, after reports of a serious two-vehicle crash involving drivers heading in opposite directions.
When first responders arrived, they found a devastating scene. Two vehicles had collided head-on with heavy impact damage spread across the roadway.
Investigators believe a northbound vehicle crossed the center line and slammed directly into a southbound car. The force of the impact left both vehicles badly destroyed.
Tiffany Mauldin, a 34-year-old resident of Stanly County, was behind the wheel of one of the vehicles. She did not survive the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said emergency crews worked quickly, but the injuries were too severe for any lifesaving efforts to succeed. Her death has left family and friends in shock.
The driver of the other vehicle, traveling southbound, was seriously injured and rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Their condition has not been fully released.
Law enforcement from the Albemarle Police Department spent hours at the crash site collecting evidence, mapping debris, and working to understand exactly how the collision happened.
Traffic along parts of U.S. Highway 52 was slowed and partially blocked while crews cleared the wreckage and secured the area for investigation.
Officials have not yet confirmed what caused the northbound vehicle to drift across the center line. The investigation is still ongoing.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has relevant information to come forward and contact investigators or Stanly County Crime Stoppers.
