Mikaela Durfey Marana, Ariz.: A quiet street turned into a crime scene after a deadly domestic incident left a woman and her former husband dead, with two small children caught in the middle of the aftermath.
Marana police say 36-year-old Mikaela Durfey was shot and killed in the driveway of a home in the 6700 block of West Alegria Drive near the Silverbell and Cortaro area. The call came in late Monday night.

Officers arrived to find Durfey already dead at the scene. The area was quickly secured as investigators began processing evidence and speaking with witnesses.
Authorities say the suspect in the shooting was her ex-husband, 37-year-old Brian Schnurr. He fled immediately after the incident, triggering a fast-moving search across nearby areas.
Not long after, police located a blue Dodge Challenger parked in a lot near Lil Abner’s Steakhouse, less than a mile from the home. Inside the vehicle, two children under the age of four were found unharmed and taken into protective care.
A wider search then led officers into nearby desert terrain. There, they found Schnurr dead from what investigators believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The case was then classified as a murder-suicide investigation.
Police confirmed both deaths are connected and tied to the same incident. They have not released details about what led up to the shooting or the exact relationship of the children to the two adults.
The Marana community has been left shaken as detectives continue working through evidence and timelines. Officials say the investigation is still active and more details may emerge as interviews continue.
