A Brownsville murder-suicide investigation is shedding light on a deadly encounter that ended with two people dead inside a hotel room Thursday afternoon.
Brownsville police say 39-year-old German Navarro Lopez and 38-year-old Shelsy Solis Sosa were discovered inside a room at the Holiday Inn on the 600 block of Sunrise Boulevard shortly after noon.

Hotel staff members reportedly found the pair and immediately contacted authorities. Officers arrived around 12:34 p.m. and began securing the scene while detectives worked to piece together what happened.
Investigators said both Lopez and Solis Sosa had suffered apparent gunshot wounds to the head. A firearm was found inside the room near where the bodies were discovered.
Based on evidence collected at the scene, police believe Lopez shot Solis Sosa before taking his own life. Authorities have classified the case as a murder-suicide investigation.
Police also confirmed the couple had been involved in an on-and-off relationship. While investigators have not revealed what may have triggered the violence, they said the relationship history is part of the ongoing investigation.
The shocking discovery brought a heavy police presence to the hotel and left many people searching for answers. Cases involving intimate partners often leave families dealing with layers of grief, confusion and unanswered questions.
Solis Sosa, a mother of five, is being remembered by those who knew her while investigators continue reviewing evidence connected to the shooting. Officials have not announced any additional findings and say the case remains under investigation.
For now, authorities believe the tragic sequence of events unfolded entirely inside the hotel room, ending two lives and leaving two families facing an unimaginable loss.
