A tragic incident in Allentown has left a family grieving after the death of 17-year-old Ameer Simmons. The event happened Thursday afternoon in the 300 block of Basin Street, where Jordan Creek runs through the area. What started as an ordinary day quickly turned into a devastating emergency.
According to officials, Ameer Simmons entered Jordan Creek from a railroad trestle. Moments after he went into the water, he did not resurface. People nearby realized something was wrong and emergency services were called immediately.

Responders rushed to the scene as search efforts began in the creek. The situation required coordinated water rescue operations due to the conditions of the area and the difficulty of visibility in the moving water.
After an extensive response effort, the teen was recovered and later pronounced dead. Authorities confirmed that he did not survive the incident despite rapid intervention from emergency teams.
The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy the following day. It was determined that the cause of death was drowning, and the manner of death was ruled accidental.
News of his passing spread quickly through the community, leaving friends, neighbors, and family members in shock. Those who knew him are now left trying to process the sudden loss of a young life.
Officials have since renewed warnings about the dangers of entering natural waterways, especially creeks and rivers with strong or unpredictable currents. They continue to stress that even familiar-looking water can be extremely dangerous.
