A routine drive through Greer turned tragic Tuesday night when 28-year-old Michael Jaylen Coleman of Duncan lost his life in a violent single-vehicle rollover crash, according to authorities.
The crash happened around 9:25 p.m. near the intersection of East Main Street and Wade Hampton Boulevard, a heavily traveled area that connects parts of Greenville and Spartanburg counties. Emergency crews rushed to the scene after reports of a serious collision involving a Chrysler 300.

Investigators with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said Coleman was driving a 2013 Chrysler 300 and was attempting to turn left from Valley Road onto East Main Street. During the turn, the vehicle struck a curb and traveled off the left side of the roadway.
Troopers said the Chrysler then crashed into a ditch before slamming into a tree. The force of the impact caused the vehicle to overturn, leaving extensive damage and creating a devastating scene for first responders.
When emergency personnel arrived, Coleman had suffered severe injuries. Despite rescue efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Greenville County Coroner’s Office later identified him and ruled the death accidental.
Authorities said Coleman died from blunt force injuries sustained during the crash. An external examination was scheduled as part of the coroner’s ongoing investigation.
Three passengers who were riding in the Chrysler survived the crash but suffered injuries. They were transported by EMS to nearby hospitals for treatment. Officials have not released their names, and the extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.
Investigators are still working to determine exactly what caused the crash. At this stage, authorities have not said whether speed, impairment, mechanical problems, or any other factors played a role. The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Greenville County Coroner’s Office continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
