Fairfield, Calif., Sem Yeto High School Graduate: Graduation night turns deadly as celebration ends in sudden gunfire at Schafer Stadium

FAIRFIELD, Calif. — A night meant for celebration ended in shock and grief after a shooting erupted just after the Sem Yeto High School graduation ceremony at Schafer Stadium on the campus of Fairfield High School.

The ceremony had just wrapped up when graduates, families, and friends were slowly making their way out of the stadium. In those final moments of joy, the atmosphere shifted without warning.

A young Sem Yeto High School graduate was killed in the shooting. Three other people were also struck by gunfire and rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Their names and conditions have not been released.

Witnesses described confusion and panic as shots rang out near the exit areas of the stadium. People scattered in different directions as security and responders moved in quickly.

Authorities say the gunfire came from a suspect believed to be a juvenile male who fled the scene immediately after the incident. A wide search operation was launched across the Fairfield area.

Police and school district officials confirmed the shooting happened after the official ceremony had already ended. Investigators are now working through surveillance footage and witness statements to piece together what happened.

The loss has deeply shaken the Sem Yeto High School community. What was supposed to be a milestone celebration for students and families instead turned into a night marked by fear and heartbreak.
