Tammy Dawson was a 25-year-old woman from Beaumont, Texas, whose life ended after a late-night shooting inside her west Beaumont home. The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday around 2:40 a.m. in the 8200 block of Heartfield Lane, not far from Gladys Avenue near Major Drive. What began as a domestic situation turned into a deadly moment that left a family in shock and a community searching for answers.
Police say officers responded to a shooting call and found Dawson inside a bedroom closet with a gunshot wound to the head. Emergency responders with Beaumont EMS rushed her to a nearby hospital. She was listed in critical condition and later placed on life support as doctors fought to save her.

According to court records and a probable cause affidavit, Dawson’s boyfriend, 44-year-old Brandon Chretien, told 911 operators that the shooting happened during a struggle over a firearm. He said the weapon went off inside the home they shared, striking Dawson during the confrontation.
But investigators say the physical evidence did not support that version of events. After processing the scene, detectives concluded that the injuries and evidence pointed away from an accidental discharge claim. Authorities later determined that Dawson was shot and critically injured by Chretien.
Police also reported that a handgun was recovered from a bedside table inside the residence. Crime scene investigators spent hours documenting the home and collecting forensic evidence as they worked to reconstruct what happened in the moments before the shooting.
Dawson remained hospitalized in critical condition for days. Her condition never improved, and she was taken off life support late Monday morning. The news marked the final turn in a case that had already shifted from a medical emergency to a criminal investigation.
Chretien was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault with a weapon causing brain injury or paralysis, a first-degree felony. A judge set his bond at 1 million dollars and imposed strict conditions, including no contact with the victim, GPS monitoring, and a firearm ban.
As Dawson’s death now becomes part of the case, prosecutors are reviewing whether additional charges will be filed. The investigation remains active as authorities continue to examine what led to the fatal shooting inside the west Beaumont home. The incident occurred in Beaumont, Texas.
