Luis J. Bonet, Camden: ShotSpotter alert leads officers to deadly midnight scene

Camden, Luis J. Bonet: A quiet street call that turned into a fatal discovery just after midnight.

Camden authorities say 24-year-old Luis J. Bonet was killed in an early morning shooting that unfolded just after 12:23 a.m. on June 9, 2026. Officers were first pulled to the 200 block of Morse Street after a ShotSpotter alert picked up possible gunfire in the area.

When police arrived, they did not immediately find Bonet at the initial location. Instead, the search led them nearby, where they located him injured around the intersection of Baird Boulevard and Boyd Street.

Bonet, a Camden resident, had suffered a gunshot wound. Emergency responders moved quickly and rushed him to Cooper University Hospital for urgent treatment.

Doctors tried to save his life, working through the early minutes of the morning. Despite those efforts, he was pronounced dead at about 12:36 a.m.

The case quickly drew in detectives from both the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Camden County Police Department. The scene was secured and evidence collection began.

At this stage, investigators have not shared any details about a motive. No suspect has been identified, and no arrests have been made.

Authorities are still asking for help from the public as they continue to piece together what happened in those early minutes of June 9.
