A warm Saturday evening took an incredibly dark turn out east of town for a local rider. It was supposed to be a regular weekend cruise through the mountain air. Instead, it ended up becoming a sudden tragedy that shook the community to its core.
The man on the bike was Jason Fall, a 56-year-old resident of the local area. He was out enjoying the late afternoon on his Kawasaki motorcycle. He was navigating the scenic routes just outside the city limits as the day started winding down.
He found himself riding along Ochoco Ranger Road right around 6 p.m. This specific route is known by everyone around here as a gateway to the national forest. It is a beautiful drive but it is also loaded with sharp curves and constantly changing terrain.
Disaster struck hard when Jason reached the area near milepost 7. For reasons still being looked into, his motorcycle drifted off course and slammed directly into a roadside guardrail. The sheer violence of the impact changed everything in a split second.
The force of the collision completely ejected him from the motorcycle. The momentum carried his body far past the guardrail and into the rugged landscape. He was left with horrific, life-threatening injuries out in the remote wilderness.
First responders rushed to the scene as fast as they could navigate the mountain roads. They immediately saw how bad things were and knew they needed help from the sky. They requested an emergency Life Flight medical helicopter to get him out of there.
The chopper arrived quickly and airlifted him to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Medical workers did absolutely everything they could to pull him back from the edge. Sadly, despite all those intense lifesaving efforts, Jason passed away from his injuries.
