Wilmington, Delaware Teen Killed in Head-On I-95 Crash Near Harvey Road

Unique Williams was driving north on Interstate 95 late Friday when her life ended in a violent collision that has left a community grappling with loss. Nineteen-year-old Williams, of Newark, was behind the wheel of a Chrysler 200 around 8:55 p.m. when her car suddenly crossed the center grass median and entered the southbound side of the highway. At the same time, a Volvo tractor-trailer hauling three cars was heading south just south of Harvey Road. The two vehicles collided head-on with catastrophic force.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene as traffic halted and flashing lights lit up the cold February night. Williams was thrown from her vehicle in the impact and rushed to a nearby hospital. Doctors worked to save her, but she died from her injuries hours later.

The truck driver, a 34-year-old man from New York, survived. He was taken to a hospital and treated for injuries that were described as non-life-threatening. Officials say he was wearing a seatbelt and was alert after the crash.

Traffic on I-95 was shut down for about six hours while police worked to clear debris and reconstruct the scene. Families made detours, and commuters watched from a distance as state troopers combed the median and shoulders for clues.

Investigators from the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continue to piece together why Williams’ car crossed the median. They are urging anyone who saw the crash or has dash camera footage to come forward to help them understand how such a young life was cut short.

Friends and neighbors remembered Unique as a vibrant young woman with dreams ahead of her. There is an outpouring of grief on social media from people who knew her, and many have spoken about how deeply her loss is felt in Newark and beyond.

Her family has not released a public statement, but the scene near Harvey Road has become a quiet place of tribute. Flowers and notes left by strangers speak to the shock and sadness felt across the region.

Highway safety advocates point out that head-on collisions at high speeds are among the deadliest on American roads, and they often happen in a matter of seconds. Williams was not wearing a seatbelt, authorities confirmed, a detail that has fueled conversations about traffic safety and the value of taking even small precautions behind the wheel.

For now Wilmington mourns, and the memory of a young life cut short lingers on a stretch of I-95 that will not soon be forgotten.
