Modesto: Arquel Rogers, 34, Killed After Being Struck on West Hatch Road

Arquel Rogers, a 34-year-old man from Modesto, lost his life late Saturday night after a devastating crash on West Hatch Road in south Modesto. The incident happened between Boise Avenue and Dallas Street and has left the community shaken.

According to police, the crash took place around 8:50 p.m. Rogers was walking in the roadway when he was hit by multiple vehicles. Investigators say he was first struck by an eastbound vehicle.

After the first impact, Rogers was hit again by at least one more vehicle before traffic was able to come to a full stop. Officers believe a third vehicle, possibly a dark pickup truck, may also have been involved in the collision.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Rogers was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries. Authorities confirmed his identity through the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.

Police said it is still unclear why Rogers was walking in the traffic lanes at the time of the crash. That detail remains part of the ongoing investigation.

The first two drivers involved remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. However, the suspected third driver did not stay at the location and has not yet been identified.

The Modesto Police Department’s Traffic Unit spent several hours at the scene, closing off a stretch of West Hatch Road while collecting evidence and documenting what happened. Officials are asking anyone with information to come forward as they continue to piece together the events that led to Rogers’ death.
