Lincoln, Neb. — The Lincoln community is mourning Jeffery McDonald, a 59-year-old rider whose life ended in a sudden motorcycle crash Saturday evening in Lancaster County. What began as a routine evening ride turned into a tragedy that has left family and friends in deep shock.
McDonald was riding his motorcycle near NW 48th Street and the Interstate 80 interchange when the incident unfolded. He was known by those close to him as someone who enjoyed the open road and kept a quiet presence in his community.

According to authorities, a Nebraska State Patrol trooper attempted to stop McDonald around 7:50 p.m. on May 2 after the motorcycle was observed speeding westbound on I-80. What followed was a brief pursuit that lasted less than three minutes.
During that short chase, officials say the motorcycle was ridden in a reckless manner. It reportedly weaved through traffic and moved onto the shoulder, creating dangerous conditions for other drivers on the highway.
The pursuit ended when McDonald exited I-80 at NW 48th Street. Investigators say he was unable to properly navigate the off-ramp, which led to the crash that took his life.
The trooper arrived moments later and immediately called for emergency assistance. Life-saving efforts were started at the scene, but McDonald was pronounced dead there.
Authorities have stated that speed is believed to have played a role in the crash. The Nebraska State Patrol has also requested the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office to handle the investigation as they continue reviewing all factors involved.
Family members and friends are now left with grief and disbelief. Those who knew McDonald are remembering him as a man whose sudden passing has created a painful void that will not be easily filled.
