A 35-year-old motorcyclist from Spring Lake lost his life early Sunday morning after a violent crash involving a pickup truck in Crockery Township. Authorities identified him as Cody Marston, who died at the scene despite rapid emergency response.
Deputies with the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office were called out just before 12:30 a.m. to State Road, west of 136th Avenue, after reports of a motorcycle and vehicle collision.

When responders arrived, they found Marston had been thrown from his motorcycle and was suffering from severe injuries. Paramedics attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say Marston was traveling westbound on State Road when the crash happened. At the same time, a pickup truck driven by a 39-year-old man from Kalamazoo was backing out of a private driveway onto the roadway. Two passengers were inside the truck.
Preliminary findings show that Marston attempted to pass the pickup on the right side as it was entering the road. During that move, the motorcycle struck the front corner of the truck.
The impact was described as forceful, separating Marston from his motorcycle and sending him onto the roadway.
Neither the driver of the pickup nor the two passengers were injured in the crash.
Authorities have not yet released information about speed, lighting conditions, or other possible contributing factors as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says the case remains active as investigators continue to piece together exactly how the collision unfolded.
