It was a beautiful, clear Saturday afternoon on Interstate 95. Drivers were just cruising along, enjoying the weekend vibe. Nobody expected the day to take such a dark turn.
Darcel Geiser was one of those drivers out on the blacktop. She was a 58-year-old woman from the nearby town of Brewer. She was heading northbound in the passing lane, just past the noon hour.

Everything seemed totally fine until she hit mile marker 174. For some unknown reason, her vehicle suddenly drifted right off the smooth pavement.
The car hit the dirt and flipped over. It rolled several times in a violent crash that stopped traffic cold. Pieces of metal and debris scattered across the side of the highway.
There was one heartbreaking detail that changed everything. Darcel was not wearing her seatbelt when the vehicle started to roll. That single choice turned a bad accident into a total tragedy.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene as fast as they could. Responders had to use heavy tools to cut her out of the crushed vehicle. Sadly, it was already too late to save her life.
Medics pronounced her dead right there on the shoulder of the road. It is a harsh reminder of how fast life can change on the open highway. A quiet weekend trip ended in the worst way possible.
