A 20-year-old guy named Kejuan Williams had his whole life ahead of him until a quiet Saturday night changed everything. It was right around 11:15 p.m. when a single gunshot echoed through a Horn Lake neighborhood. The peace of Chickasaw Cove was instantly shattered, leaving a young man dead and a community completely shook up.
Police officers rushed to the 5200 block after neighbors called in reports of a shooting. When the first sirens arrived at the scene, officers found Williams suffering from a severe gunshot wound to his head. Paramedics could not do anything to save him, and authorities confirmed he died right there on the spot.
It did not take very long for investigators to figure out who was behind the trigger. Police quickly identified the suspect as 19-year-old Elijah Avent, who also lived right there in Horn Lake. Instead of staying to face what happened, Avent took off into the night immediately after the shooting.
