The Tom Bean and Sherman communities are grieving the heartbreaking loss of 18-year-old Makynna Eden Tumlinson, a recent graduate of Tom Bean High School who was killed in a crash Wednesday afternoon on State Highway 11 in Grayson County.
According to authorities, the crash happened around 3:44 p.m. near McGraw Lane. Investigators said Makynna was driving a Chevrolet Cruze northbound on State Highway 11 when her vehicle struck the rear of a 2007 International truck traveling in the same direction.
The impact was severe. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, but Makynna was pronounced dead there. The sudden loss of a young woman who had just completed high school has left friends, family members, classmates, and teachers struggling to process the tragedy.

Officials identified the truck driver as 37-year-old Hector Ivan Mejia Garcia. He was transported to a local hospital and was reported to have suffered suspected minor injuries.
For many in the community, the tragedy is especially painful because Makynna had just reached an important milestone in life. Having recently graduated from Tom Bean High School, she was preparing for the future and looking ahead to new opportunities. Instead, her life was cut short in a matter of seconds.
As word of the crash spread, messages of grief and remembrance quickly poured in from across the area. Friends remembered Makynna as a kind and caring young woman whose presence made an impact on those around her. Teachers and classmates spoke of a young person with a bright future and a warm spirit.
Tom Bean High School announced a remembrance gathering at the school gym Thursday morning as students, faculty, and community members came together to honor her memory. The gathering provided a place for people to mourn, reflect, and support one another during an incredibly difficult time.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash. At this stage, no additional details have been released regarding the circumstances that led to the collision. For now, a grieving community is focused on remembering Makynna Eden Tumlinson and the life she lived, even though it ended far too soon.
