A quiet neighborhood in Doral, Florida, was left reeling after a heartbreaking discovery inside a home in the gated Doral Isles community. Authorities say 46-year-old Melanie Hyer, a well-known South Florida Realtor, and her two daughters, Savannah Whiten, 11, and Sienna Whiten, 8, were found dead Tuesday evening along with Hyer’s ex-husband, Ryan Charles Whiten, 42.
The tragedy unfolded shortly after 7:30 p.m. when Doral police officers responded to a welfare check request made by a concerned family friend. When officers entered the residence near Northwest 111th Court and Northwest 72nd Terrace, they found all four family members unresponsive.

Investigators later confirmed that each person had suffered apparent stab wounds. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived at the scene and pronounced all four dead.
Authorities have since stated that detectives believe the case was the result of a murder-suicide. However, investigators have not publicly identified who they believe was responsible, and they have not disclosed the sequence of events that led to the deaths.
The loss of Savannah and Sienna has been especially painful for the local community. Both girls attended Downtown Doral Charter Schools, where classmates, teachers, and staff members have been struggling to process the devastating news. School officials described the sisters as deeply loved members of the school family and announced that grief counselors would be available to support students and employees.
The tragedy also struck close to home for Doral Mayor Christi Fraga, who personally knew Melanie Hyer. Fraga described Hyer as a caring and devoted mother whose presence touched many people throughout the community. She said the loss has left residents shocked and heartbroken.
Neighbors say the news has been difficult to comprehend in a community known for its family-friendly atmosphere. Court records indicate that Hyer and Ryan Whiten had been divorced for several years, though they continued co-parenting their daughters.
For now, many questions remain unanswered. Detectives with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Homicide Bureau continue to investigate what happened inside the home that night. As loved ones mourn, the Doral community is remembering a mother and her two young daughters whose lives ended far too soon.
