Laurens County Michael Nanna: Community mourns veteran truck driver killed in early morning interstate crash

Michael Nanna, a 67-year-old truck driver from Inman, was killed in a tragic crash in Laurens County, South Carolina, during the early hours of Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

The crash happened along Interstate 26 near mile marker 48 at about 3:40 a.m. Michael was operating an 18-wheeler when the vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle collision.

Authorities said he was the only person inside the tractor-trailer at the time of the crash. Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene.

Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead where the crash occurred. Officials confirmed he suffered fatal injuries from the impact.

The Laurens County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene, including Deputy Coroner Brandon Cromer, Chief Deputy Coroner Ashley Rushton, and Coroner Patti Canupp.

Investigators with the South Carolina Highway Patrol are still working to determine what led to the crash. No cause has been confirmed so far.
