New London, Connecticut – The whole community is hurting right now after losing Engy Garcia, a local woman who died way too soon following a car accident. The folks who knew her best say the world got a little dimmer because Engy was the kind of person who lived to help other people, plain and simple.
Whether you called her Engy or Engelys Garcia Benitez, she was a force of good around here. This wasn’t just a job to her; it was her life’s mission. Since 2017, she’d been pouring her heart into the Access Community Action Agency, where everyone knew her as the go-to gal with a warm smile and a bigger heart.

But she didn’t stop there. Engy was also a small business owner running “Crcosby_ElianisMom,” which sounds like a username, sure, but it was really just an extension of who she was—a hardworking mom and entrepreneur who loved her family fierce. Her loved ones say she was stubborn in the best way possible, determined to make a good life for the people she cared about.
This lady had a real soft spot for kids. Before her current gig, she worked as a teacher’s aide at Jennings School and as a teaching assistant over at Fitch High School in Groton. She even put in time at Waterford Country School Foster Care. In every single one of those classrooms and homes, she brought this quiet patience and warmth that made the kids trust her instantly.
Engy was a proud grad of New London High School, but she never stopped hitting the books. She kept learning at Porter and Chester Institute and the ABC Animal Behavior College. She wanted a better future, and she wasn’t afraid to work her tail off to get it, all while taking care of everyone around her.
What really stood out, though, was how she made you feel like you belonged. Being bilingual in English and Spanish, she could talk to just about anyone in town. She didn’t just speak the language; she spoke the language of kindness, and she never met a stranger.
Right now, the tributes are flooding in from her friends, her coworkers, and her heartbroken family. It’s going to be a long road to get over this one. To her mom, her sister, and all those little ones she helped raise—hang in there. Her time was cut short, but the love she spread is gonna stick around for a long, long time.
